Desert Spray Foaming – Four Types of Attic Insulation
Attic insulation may be out of sight, but it is one of the most critical parts of a home. It helps to keep conditioned air inside and limit the transfer of heat from hotter to cooler areas, which can increase comfort while reducing energy costs.
There are four types of attic insulation:
Loose fill insulation (often referred to as blown in) is made of loose materials, such as fiberglass, mineral wool or cellulose, that are blown into the space. It is the best choice for attics with irregular joist spacing, lots of obstacles and/or limited headroom.
Insulation Contractor batts or rolls are made of fine glass fibers rolled into large sheets for easy installation. They are available in widths to accommodate standard spacing of wall studs and attic trusses or rafters. They are usually backed by a facing to protect against moisture and provide a fire safety barrier.

Mineral wool, also in batts or rolls, is an eco-friendly option that limits outer elements including temperature and sound. It is also a good choice for attics that require a fire safety barrier.
Spray foam, which is also known as two-component polyurethane spray foam, is a high-performance insulation that’s applied with machinery to seal gaps and cracks in walls, ducts, crawl spaces and unvented attics. It is the most expensive type of attic insulation but provides a complete, seamless and durable insulation solution that resists moisture, mold and pests.
